Mothers Day

Today is Mothering Sunday so Mum (Sue) got taken out for lunch at the Restaurant on site here at Marjal  Guardamar.  What a lovely meal it was.

Although it wasn’t made clear by the menu there were several courses. First came a delicious croquet of ham and cheese accompanied by salad. This was followed by a roasted red pepper and seafood salad. After this came cannelloni in a rich seafood sauce. Just when we weren’t sure whether dessert came next or not we were each served a plate of Paella. Finally came the dessert of a lovely Tiramisu served in individual cocktail glasses.

All the while we were eating we were entertained by a live singer and line dancing just outside the window next to our table.

After the meal was completed we returned to our van and enjoyed some dancing in the sunshine. Our neighbours probably think we’re mad.

What a lovely day!

What a lovely day we’ve had today. Got up and after breakfast we cycled into Los Belones for the weekly market. We also visited the bodega for some more draft wine and found some Asiatico glasses that Sue had been after so treated ourselves. From there we headed for Mar de Crystal for a coffee on the seafront but it was heaving so we continued on back to the site and enjoyed a coffee overlooking the water there.

It looked so inviting that we decided that it was too good not to use the kayak so for the first time this trip the kayak floated. Only me in it as Sue still doesn’t trust me not to capsize her into the water again so I went off while Sue enjoyed the sunshine on the beach.

Perfect conditions to be out on the water.

Home to the van for barbequed steak with jacket potatoes and asparagus followed by some delicious coconut ice cream from Mercadona served in a coconut shell.

It’s a hard life !

Flamingos at La Manga

Went to Cabo de Palos on Saturday and coming home saw flamingos in the nearby salina. Altogether I counted nine but only three in a group.

A Salina is a shallow lagoon that is flooded with sea water which is then left to evaporate. When all the water has gone the salt left behind is harvested. Due to the shallow, warm water shrimps grow well providing food for many birds including the flamingoes.

It's lovely to see them in the wild.
